OUR SERVICES

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is caused by a virus and is most commonly spread through direct contact with the blood of an infected person. It can have various stages of severity associated with the inflammation of the liver. At its worst, chronic hepatitis C is a long-term, sometimes lifelong, malady that can cause cirrhosis, liver cancer, permanent liver damage, and even death. The most common way to be infected by hepatitis C is by sharing needles that have had direct contact with the blood of an infected person, such as injecting drugs. Without proper treatment and medical care, up to 20% of people with chronic hepatitis C will develop cirrhosis of the liver, and up to 5% of them will perish from this disease or illnesses associated with liver cancer.

HIV/AIDS

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The latter is caused by the virus’s targeted attack on immune system cells. Once these cells die, it is no longer possible for the human body to resist infections and diseases. Although there is not a vaccine that can prevent HIV infection, advances in medical technology and HIV treatments have been successful in guaranteeing a better quality of life, a longer life expectancy, and a lower probability infecting others. The two most common ways to contract HIV are through unsafe sex and sharing needles with someone who is HIV positive. According to recent data, over 5,000 people around the world contract HIV daily, but fewer than 50% of them have access to antiretroviral therapy.

PrEP & PEP

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily administration of medication for people who are HIV negative but are at high risk for contracting it, most commonly because they are having intercourse with people who do not know their current HIV status. Additionally, PrEP is an option for people who are in mixed-status relationships with seropositive people. The brand name of the medication containing two medicines, tenofovir, and emtricitabine, is Truvada®. When used as prescribed, it is highly effective in preventing HIV infection.
